Leaving Laos

We've been a bit lackadaisical about the blog. For me it was a challenge to find the energy in between shifts at the hospital. As for Mike, I'm not sure what his excuse is... Here's a few parting shots from Luang Prabang and then off to Vietnam.

Doing my duty...

Smaller waterfall on Kuang Si River

Bigger waterfall, same river. Blue green water is because of the minerals in the surrounding stone (limestone.)

Mike is a sucker for a barber shop in the middle of nowhere.

Little girls fascinated by the falang getting a haircut.

Haircut and neck massage- 20,000 Kip

Sunset cruise on the Mekong

Temple on Mt. Phosy

Buddhas

And more Buddhas

Love the reclining Buddhas

Happy Mike (and Buddha)

You can buy a pair of birds for 10,000 Kip and release them for good luck.

Hear no

See no

Speak no evil-  These guys were at the Wat next to our guesthouse. We would pass by them everyday/

Was Vatmounena Somphouaram- our neighborhood temple.

On our way to Vietnam.

Night Market

Every night in the center of the old city of Luang Prabang there is a night market. Blocks and blocks of stalls selling any kind of treasure you can think of- toys, magnets, fans, beautiful weaving and embroidered items, booze and the ubiquitous Beer Lao shirts and elephant harem pants that every hippie boy traveling through SE Asia wears (I couldn't get Mike Cook and Mike Costello to wear them- I would have given anything to get a photo of that. Also great street food- we especially like anything you can eat off a stick- grilled meat, dumplings with a cold Beer Lao, of course.
